The winter solstice has has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere – inviting humanity to move out of the darkness and into the light.
What is the winter solstice?
Known as a pivotal day of transition, the winter solstice, celebrated this year at 4:19 AM Eastern Time on December 21, is the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
The winter solstice has been celebrated by thousands of cultures and communities across the globe since the beginning of time. In ancient times, the winter solstice was often seen as a time of rebirth and renewal. Early observers noticed that even as the days got shorter and shorter, the sun would appear to pause in the sky, reverse course, and usher in longer days again.
It's a wonderful metaphor – just when the days seem darkest, we're reminded that there are lighter times to come.
Why celebrate the winter solstice?
The winter solstice is one of our favorite times of the year. It serves as an invitation to reflect on growth, let go of what no longer serves us, and get clear on what we desire to manifest and who we want to be in the coming year.
And the science behind the winter solstice reminds us that we can always align to the light around us and within us.
