Many smart, busy people get stuck in the mindset trap of believing that self-care is selfish or a luxury, but learning to prioritize yourself and to claim time for your goals is critical for long term success. 1. Set Your Intentions
In our fast-paced daily lives, we zoom about our days on auto pilot, jumping from one commitment to another without much thought as to what we want to experience. Shift this automatic programming by setting aside time for yourself each morning. Before your day begins, ask yourself:
- What do I want to experience today?
- How do I want to feel?
- What experiences and activities will bring me fulfillment today?
2. Fuel Your Body Consciously
Studies show we have more control over our health than we realize. You can begin to control your health destiny by being more mindful of what you put into your body. Listen to your body and experiment with how you feel when you consume or take out certain foods from your diet.
3. Get Plenty of Zzzz’s…
Although it’s easier said than done, getting the sleep your body needs will do wonders for your overall well-being and general outlook on life. Give yourself the gift of restful sleep each night. You’ll wake up refreshed and ready for a new day.
4. Do Something Active Every Day
Studies show that physical activity is one of the best things we can do to boost our well-being and avoid many health problems. Get your blood pumping by doing what you like to do, whether it’s running, skiing, biking or chasing your kids.
5. Think Positive Thoughts
Scientific evidence demonstrates that we are powerful human beings with the ability to create our experiences with our thoughts. We’re the only ones who can control our attitudes and responses to life’s daily challenges. Be aware of your thoughts and choose ones that empower and elevate you.
6. Do Something Nice For Yourself

Take the time to just “be” in the present moment, focusing on the task at hand, whether it’s tying your toddler’s shoe, preparing the family meal, or participating in a business meeting.
